Small But Mighty Paleoart

When the word "fossil" hits your ears, most people thing automatically of dinosaurs, of big bones slowly emerging from the earth in distant locales. But the majority of fossil discoveries around the world are small, fitting in the palm of your hand or even the cup of a teaspoon. That such tiny fragments of ancient life survived to be found is a wonder, though.

So, in the latest pieces of paleoart I've made, I focused on two small but mighty fossils: a trilobite, one of the most durable and diverse species in the fossil record, and a direwolf tooth, which once was a tool in the most powerful pair of jaws of any canid species.

Both new paleoart pieces are carved on Speedball Speedycarve, a softer carving material that is new to me, but I found held the detail of both these little designs well while also being much gentler on my wrists to work with. I used my trusty water-based ink and recycled cotton paper to print both the Trilobite Tinyprint and Direwolf Tinyprint, however, and was delighted at how smoothy the images transferred.

These tinyprint designs are available now in early access to all Beastie and Bone Patrons, and will be added to the Beastie and Bone main online shop in the shop update on June 29th!

Be well,
Stacia
